Our dodo..is dead!

Mauritius is known apart from his beaches,the blue stamp for his extinct bird Dodo.Unfortunately we have to accept the extinction of this bird which is attributed to human activity.Its a shame!how people could kill this harmless bird, just for eating it?Any way!what is done is done..
The Dodo (Raphus Cucullatus)was a bird related to the pigeons and doves.It weighted about 20kg and was a tall as 1 meter.As it could not fly, it was hunted for its flesh ,which was described as tough but good.
Who killed it?the arabs?the portuguese?the dutch?the malay sailors?the slaves? I dont want to blame nobody but whoever did this was definitely not intelligent.
Although, we have nowadays the dodo cartoon,the bird really existed at times.Its not an illusion.It was described by different voyageurs visiting the island,the Dutch, the portuguese..Moreover the fossils of the birds were found on the island and are exposed in different museum around the world..
So when you visit Mauritius,dont forget to make a visit at the national museum to learn more about the history of this wonderful bird which is "dead as a dodo"

Staying in Mauritius

Where to stay?Well this depends on your choice and your pocket!
There are different options from 5 star hotel to self catering appartment.Its all depend what you want.
For example if you are going to Mauritius on honeymoon,the best option is to go to a nice five star beach like Royal Palm or the Saint Geran or Hilton Mauritius:You will feel like a king and your wife like a qween or vice versa.If you are going on business trip,you might think of LaBourdonnais waterfront which is right in the capital Port-Louis.From 5 to 1 star,you have a lot of choices.
If you are going as family or in groups,you might want to rent a self catering appartment for as cheap as 15 euro per day.You can get even cheaper in guest houses but it doesnt worth the price especially after paying a 700 euro air ticket and then stay in a 5 euro guest house!
So whatever your budget is!there are lot of choices for accomodation in Mauritus.
And if by any chance!you didnt like any of them,then you can sleep on the beach.Now at 1 a.m local time today it is 28 degrees celcius.There is no camping or fishing taxes in Mauritius,as far as i know.So take your tent and come to mauritius!

There are several flights from major cities in europe which are direct to Maurtius.From european cities ,there are regular direct flights from Paris,London,Milan,Frankfurt,Munich.From Africa,there are regular flights from Johanesburg,Nairobi,Durban.From asian cities,direct flights are from Bombay,Delhi,Chennai,Singapore,Kwala lumpur,Hong Kong.The Flights from middle east are from Dubai and Jeddah.From Australia,there are regular flights from Melbourne,Perth.In betweeen the islands of the indian ocean,there are regular flights from
Antananarivo,Seychelles,Reunion island,Rodrigues.
There are also charter fights that comes to Mauritius from european cities like Budapest.However these flights are seasonal.
Chartered flights usually comes in packages with hotels and usually cannot be bought as single flight ticket.This may be due the policy of the government that their aim is to target rich tourists.
One nice option of travelling to Mauritius which is becoming quite fashion is through
Dubai where you can make a stop for shopping!But remember!the best deals is usually in the market in Dubai and not in the duty free!
The duration of a direct flight from Paris is around 11 hours and the cost depend on the seasons of course.Now for example in winter, the cost is around 650 euro but can reach to 1300 or more in the summer.

Mauritius Paradise History

Mauritius has been visited by the Arabs,Portuguese,Dutch,French,English and who knows who? but the name Mauritius come from the dutch stadholder Maurice Van Nassau.Unfortunately, neither the birth or death of the Prince of Orange is celebrated on the island!

The dutch will abandon the island (after may be,who knows?i was not there!eating all the dodos) and in 1715 the Gaullois will seize the island and named it Ile de France.

The french developed the island namely the sugar cane industry but in 1810 will surrender the island to England.

Since 1968,Mauritius gained independence from England and became republic in 1992.
